Safety on the Segments Marketplace

How to recognise official Segments contacts, what our badges mean and how to avoid the most common miner scams.

Official channels

These are the only contacts Segments uses for marketplace deals. Anyone else claiming to be Segments is not us.

Segments will never

  • ask you to pay to a personal crypto wallet or a personal bank account
  • ask for your ID, passport or selfie over WhatsApp, Telegram or email (we only collect documents in your account)
  • ask for your seed phrase, exchange login or one-time codes
  • rush you with "last unit" or "price only valid today" pressure

Payments for Segments deals are made against a Segments invoice by bank transfer.

How our badges work

Badges about the seller and badges about the machine look different on purpose. Only Segments can issue them.

ID verified
The seller's identity was checked by Segments (government ID and selfie).
Verified Segments client
The seller has an active hosting contract with Segments.
Verified dealer
A registered business. Segments checked its trade licence and address.
Hosted at Segments
This machine runs in a Segments data center. Issued automatically from live CoreX telemetry and lapses if the machine goes offline.
At a Segments centre
Installed at a Segments centre, confirmed by our own monitoring, but not hashing right now. The ad says why.
Segments-inspected
Bench-tested by Segments staff: hashrate, temperatures, fans and serials recorded.

Common scams and how to spot them

Ghost sellers

Ads for machines that do not exist, often at prices well below market, with photos copied from other ads. Ask for a dated test video and serial numbers, and be careful with new accounts selling large lots.

Swapped hashboards

Weaker or repaired hashboards put inside the case of a stronger model (for example S19j boards in an S19 XP case). Check the hashrate on the miner status page, or buy Segments-inspected machines.

Fake hosting contracts

Sellers who claim a machine is "running at Segments" and send a fake contract. Only a Segments badge proves it: "Hosted at Segments" for a machine hashing now, "At a Segments centre" for an installed machine that is offline. Both come from our own monitoring.

Payment diversion

Someone posing as Segments staff sends new payment details. Always confirm payment details through an official channel before paying.

How to report

Every ad has a "Report this ad" link. Use it for suspected scams, wrong details or ads that have already sold. You can also contact us through the official channels above.

We review every report within 48 hours.
